Akshay Kumar speaks about Sushant Singh Rajput and Bollywood’s nexus with drugs

In the last few days, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has been investigating and questioning quite a few Bollywood stars about the drugs angle which has surfaced after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Many names including Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh have been called for questioning.

In the midst of this, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has released a video on Social Media, whereby he has spoken about the investigation after Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise, admitting that the problem of drugs is there with some in the industry. He added that the media needs to be sensitive while covering such issues and requested the fans to stand by the film industry while the issues are being remedied.

Discussing the issues in Hindi and in an attempt to salvage Bollywood’s reputation, image and brand, Akshay Kumar said:

“I address you today with crushing sadness. Over the last few weeks, I needed to express a few things, yet there was so much negativity and pessimism all around that I was unable to comprehend what to state; the amount to state and whom to express it to.”

“Despite the fact that we are called ‘stars’, it is you, the audience, who has made Bollywood what it is, with your adoration. We are not only an industry. With the help of movies, we have promoted Indian values and culture to every corner of the world.”

“Movies have attempted to portray the sentiments of people in our nation. Regardless of whether it is the fury of the Angry Young Man, corruption or unemployment, films have attempted to feature these issues in its own way. So today, if your sentiments are of anger, we acknowledge that outrage.”

“After the unexpected passing of Sushant Singh Rajput, a ton of issues became exposed which tormented us as much as they tormented you. These issues make us look at what’s going on in our own backyard. They have forced us to examine many ills of the film industry which should be looked into. Like, narcotics and drugs are being talked about now.”

“I cannot lie to you and tell you that this problem does not exist. It definitely does, much the same as it might exist in each industry and profession. Nonetheless, it can’t be that each individual in each industry is associated with the issue. How could that be?”

“Use of drugs is a legal matter and I am sure that whatever move will be made by our law enforcement agencies and courts will be totally right. I additionally realize that each individual from the entertainment world will completely collaborate in the investigation. Yet, if it’s not too much trouble I beg you with folded hands, do not look at the entire industry in the same tainted light. That isn’t right.”

“I have consistently trusted in the power of the media. If our media does not pick up the right issues at the right time, then many people will neither find a voice nor justice. I request the media to keep raising its voice yet please keep up some sensitivity since one negative news can decimate somebody’s reputation which would have taken years of hard work to build.”
